Evaluation

Well this was an interesting start to the school year for me. I really was expecting to start until summer and I got into the class late because I was on the waiting list. Then my son got sick and I started a new job. So with all of these changes things for this unit were very difficult. Some of the things that I think I did well on were the cell project, I worked very hard on it and I think that it turned out very good. The other things I did okay on were the labs. I think that my overall summaries could use some work. I don't think I deserve anything more than a "C", although I put a lot of work into it I could have done better and I am turning it in pretty late. Things I am going to work on for the next unit are getting it in on time and being more organized.
I felt the most engaged when I was building my cell. It really made me have to think about the information that I had read. I felt least some of the reading. Some of it was interesting and some of it just wasn't. In this unit I really didn't talk to the teacher or the other students much, I was a little to preoccupied. But what was most surprising to me was that overall I actually found this unit interesting. When I took bio in high school I thought it was very boring. And now it isn't, which is good considering I am going into nursing school.

SELF/UNIT EVAL: Thanks for the very honest self-eval. I know it’s been a rough start to the semester. I’m most glad to see that you’re enjoying bio and, a good thing as you recognize wanting to go into nursing.

COMPENDIUM REVIEW 1: CELLS. The compendiums are what could use a bit more work. There should be two separate entries—one compendium no cells, the other on genetics. And I would like you to include graphics or images that show the main themes in the compendium. And also a table of contents or list of what is in the compendium showing how the topic is organized. I imagione this is where you least had time but I hope you have more time for Unit Two.
COMPENDIUM REVIEW 2: GENETICS.
MICROSCOPE LAB: Looks great. Nice explanations and historical background
DRAGON GENETICS. This is also perfect with all the definitions and nice explanations of the graphs
BUILD A CELL: Your cells is amazingly complete with all the pieces—and what a great playdough artist to get all those forms and colors together. The DNA replication looks nice. Only thing missing is protein synthesis via transcription and translation.
GENETIC ENGINEERING ESSAY: I didn’t see this essay for Unit One. Please be sure you do all the different assignments for the next units.

Teresa, thanks for all the hard work and getting past the obstacles to get this done. For your compendiums, be sure you do the two major topics, with table of contents and images included in each compendium. Your labs look great! Also be sure to do the ethics issue essay…it’s worth a few easy points.
Let me know if you have any questions on Unit Two. I do apologize for not getting this feedback to you sooner. Unit Two was due on March 24, although I am just now grading them. Let me know when you will have it done.
